15 simple ways to stay healthy

and avoid or minimize the effects of the flu.

Eat most of your foods raw, cooked oxidized foods will kill you.

Good Cholesterol and Proteins in the system will suffer when subjected to high heat from oxidation damage.  This is when over heated fats combine with the glucose molecule and the protein and/or cholesterol  molecule is disabled to some degree.  Disabled for the most part is where free radicals are created and an abundance of them is a big problem.  All of this will have a bearing on your immunity factor to the flu.  If you are not in the habit of eating much of your food raw this flu season  will give you a good reason to do so.  Make sure you wash the foods right before using them.  If you like a  piece of meat once in a while, confine the size of it to the palm of your hand and cook it at low heat.  When you do cook meat in the cooking process use Olive or Canola oil that have a higher threshold before the molecules become disabled.  Meat is good for you, chew it up really good so that you can get the full benefits of it, but not have to over do the consumption, as meats are acidic.  Remember, 100% acid is dead.

Put your  barbecue in mothballs for about 25 years.  The worst combination invented by man was the barbecue cooking meat with its fat at high heat, guzzling alcohol and topping it off with a sugary desert.  The combination described above would be on par with the still  on your right and would create a  boilermaker effect in your stomach.  Primitive man cooked meat over a fire and they didn't even  have NFL Sunday football.  They didn't make old bones either, as I suspect that had an early heart disease problem.

The all important Lymphatic system

Lymph nodes are the filters along the lymphatic system. Their job is to filter out and trap bacteria, viruses, cancer cells, and other unwanted substances, and to make sure they are safely eliminated from the body.

We have researched and have developed different massage techniques that enhance lymphatic drainage.  There are various methods in stretching the skin (toward the nodes, the garbage cans) that actually enhances the movement of lymph fluid.  Expanding the chest to the max with a deep breathing constriction action is extremely beneficial and moves fluids in the very critical area of the chest and thoracic area.  Facial exercises move fluid.  Those chin protrusion exercises that the little lady does to make her so beautiful,  is a blessing in disguise,  as it is also giving those lymph nodes under the chin a little workout.  This is one of the unknown secrets of isometric exercises, that  move lymph fluid and you can do them anywhere.

Exercise regularly

Most relate exercise with increased blood flow and this is true, but there is something else as important regarding exercise and as discussed above is Lymph fluid flow and good functioning Lymph nodes that many do not know are little power houses,  about 300 to 600 of them placed in physically different active areas of your body, under your chin, in back of your legs, your breast areas etc.  They actually neutralize cancer cells and I am sure flu elements.  The demonstration on the right (That's Brad Pitt by the way that we hired for the demo) with the old A-E-I-O-U vowel exercise happens to be an excellent practice to stimulate the critical lymph nodes that reside in the upper areas, the neck, face and skull etc.  It not only involves the nodes under the chin, the area the doctor targets when you just about sit down in his examining room with certain symptoms.  The vowel stimulation also works the carotid arteries where some serious lymph nodes reside and I am sure for a good reason.  I personally do these exercises when I do the treadmill every day and keep cadence with both.  This practice could keep that  old devil Alzheimer's from a visit as well.

The vibrator above works very well on the lymph network and nodes as long as you do it very gently.  Most lymph nodes are pretty close to the surface of the skin and can be easily damaged.  Do not apply much pressure if any at all and direct the vibrator toward the heart.  Example:  If you are working underneath the armpits on the back stroke lift the vibrator and on the fore stroke apply gentle pressure toward the heart and don't over do that, just a few light passes.  Same thing for the lower extremities, always a light pressure toward the heart.

We would not recommend using a vibrator on the carotid arteries, each side of the neck.   If you and/or your Doctor suspects the onset of heart disease an ultra sound of your carotids could be in order.  It is a very important heart disease marker.  If you have blockages to any degree in your carotid arteries chances are you have developed the same condition in other parts of your cardiovascular system.

Lightly stimulate the chest area using the vibrator and take some real deep breaths when you do it.  The chest area is the last area to tie in with the blood (Thoracic)  system.

Get enough rest

No brainer on this one

Use an effective tool to help you address the stress in your life

Got any kids that want to share their stresses in life with you?  No one went out of their way to share ours when we were climbing the ladder and we sure as hell do not need their grief at our doorstep in our twilight years.  I am sorry but that is the way we feel about it.  Sure a little advise here and there, but that is about it.  Excess stress will encourage the flu.

Wash your hands regularly

This is really an important practice during the flu season especially.  You may not be exposed to humans for a period of time, but just about everything you touch has been touched by a human being and they could have left something in their path.  Wash your hands and do it often during the day. These sanitary wipes are effective to what degree we are not sure.

Anti-Bacteria soaps in dispensers are readily available.  I keep my finger nails pretty short as I believe that long finger nails can harbor much more bacteria than short ones.  Sorry Ladies, but if you have to keep them long obtain a good brush to get under them.  In fact even if you keep your nails short use a brush as well.

Obtain enough sun

More Doctors are recommending the increase of Vitamin D intake during the flu season orally and sun intake.  Please check out our sun feature below.  One quote in the feature......

A researcher at the University of California/San Diego stated "No other method to prevent cancer has been identified that has the powerful impact of Vitamin D3".  Hey that is saying a lot.

Can you apply the same thoughts to preventing the flu?

 http://www.blueeyedcurse.com/sun_and_you2.htm

Drink enough of the right kinds of fluids.

We have drank distilled water that we spike with different natural juices, lemon juice,  apple  cider vinegar etc.  for 40 years.  We cannot emphasize the importance of  fluid intake  during the flue season.  You need the natural resources salted in distilled water for their electrolyte properties.  Optimizing your kidney function during the flu season is another no brainer.

Take extraordinary care of your lower extremities from the hips down.

The lower extremities are subjected to waste build up and problems because lymph flow  does not  have the luxury of a pumping heart.  Treadmills aren't just for blood circulation they are great for lymphatic flow.  Enhance the process with heel to toe motion.  If you don't have a tread mill get one and check out the availability of a good used one.  If you buy one that is in a box all broken down, you will pull your hair out.

Chew your Food to the point of liquefying them.

Chewing your food to the point of liquefying them exposes most of the nutrition that a food has,  simply based on increasing the available surface that has been ruptured with the chewing action.  In addition for you weight watchers,  as obesity certainly lends toward ill health and the flu, chewing your food allows you to eat less but obtaining the nutrition you need.  It is written that most of us eat too dam much. Eating less will take the burden off of your body.   Fresh fruits, vegetables, nuts and seed chewed extremely well,  even to the point of liquification will produce the extraordinary benefits these raw foods provide and optimize the immunity process,  make no mistake about it.

Eat fresh garlic, parsley, prunes regularly

If you don't follow all the advice of the last segment regarding chewing food to the point of liquification, at least take two of the foods each day, parsley ( We grow our own in pots or garden)  and prunes (Sunkist out of the can) and do them.  Both are powerhouses full of anti-oxidants and as much as we know about Prunes for their "therapy" effect,  most do not know they have the highest amount of anti-oxidants of any food known to man.  They have twice as much as the second place Raisins and Blackberries.  (You can buy blackberries frozen by the way, take them out of the freezer first thing, they thaw fast).  Put a couple of them on your cereal and/or yogurt every day and when you spoon them in your mouth, chew em and liquefy them.

Back to prunes.  Yes prunes are the anti-oxidant superstar.  Now if you are concerned with your colon and the Doctor has been badgering you to get a Colonoscopy, run  a few prunes through the system every day just for starters.  The anti-oxidant qualities of the prune being absorbed by the intestines go a long way in preventing colon cancer, in addition to their natural properties.  Don't rely on prunes to be the life saver though.

Now we do have a new feature on preventing colon cancer.  It could be the forerunner to a colonoscopy or your Doctor may go along with the "in the privacy of your home test",  the EZ detect FDA approved no mess, no fuss test.  http://www.blueeyedcurse.com/colontest.htm  Check it out and keep in mind the healthier your digestive track the less apt you are to contract the flu.

Echinacea, Zinc and Vitamin C

There have been many studies pro and con about this combination to boost the immunity.  There are many that say it is useless.  There are many like me that say it works.  For 50 years I used to get my annual cold.  My Italian Grandmother (lived to 96)  had a theory.  "Don't take care of a cold it lasts 9 days, take care of it and it lasts 8 days"  My theory is "Don't get a cold if you can help it."   The cold process always followed the same path starting with a scratchy throat, congestion in the head and down to the lungs for a good week or two, that was until I used Echinacea, Zinc and Vitamin C lozenges.  As  soon as the scratchy throat appeared, if I didn't have some handy, I would hop in the car and sprint to the pharmacy over the counter.  Sootherbs is the product we buy but there are other products equally as good as long as they have the big 3.

After a couple of days with 4 lozenges a day or so, my problem disappears.  This is over 8 years now without a cold or flu and I don't take the shots.

Popping a couple a day without symptoms could be a good idea. All I can say is take it for what it is worth.

Could the start of a cold be the forerunner of the flu?

Take fish oil/cod liver oil and selected anti-oxidant supplements in moderation,  as too much of a good thing is not necessarily good.

Face masks

There are all grades of these face masks anywhere from dust catchers to what they claim are the true blue Swine flu N95 grade.  We priced swine flu masks in the drugstore and they were 3 bucks a piece.  We went on the internet and purchased 40 for about 1.60 each and shipping brought them up to close to 2 dollars.  We would shop around the net.  Some of the lower priced masks for the swine flue said they were "temporarily out of stock"  Do you remember the  customer that was bellyaching to a merchant  about the price of something when the customer said they could buy them for less across the  street,  but they were out of them.  The merchant told the customer that if he was out of them that is what he would charge.  We paid a premium and we hope we never have reason to use them.  At least we have them on hand.

They claim that these masks are one use affairs.  So I imagine if you take a run to the market and believe there are people roaming around with the flu, that the mask will just take care of the trip and to be disposed of.  Use your judgment.  If there is a pandemic we would most likely change the masks on each trip out, but we would save the used ones if new ones became unavailable.  We believe a used one would be better than none at all.  Keep enough in stock, you never can tell what could happen with these new strains of the flu.  If you start looking for masks after an outbreak you could be sucking wind.

The Centers for Disease Control and UCLA experts suggest the following precautionary measures:

1) Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.

2) Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Alcohol-based hand cleaners are also effective.

3) Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth. Germs spread this way.

4) Try to avoid close contact with sick people and isolate those with flu-like symptoms from others.

5) If you get sick, stay home from work or school and limit contact with others to keep from infecting them. Avoid other normal activities like travel, shopping, and social events. Postpone visiting friends or family members in the hospital until you’re feeling better to help protect other patients and hospital staff.

6) If necessary, follow public health advice regarding school closures, avoiding crowds and other social distancing measures.

7) Be aware of developing the following symptoms common to both H1N1 and seasonal flu: fever (usually high), headache, extreme tiredness, dry cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, muscle aches, and stomach symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.

8) If you do contract either H1N1 or seasonal flu, stay home for at least 24 hours after the fever ends and stay away from others as much as possible.

9) The following high-risk people should seek medical attention or guidance upon development of symptoms: pregnant women, children younger than 5, people of any age with certain chronic medical conditions or compromised immune systems, and those 65 and older (this population has less susceptibility to H1N1 but high risk to seasonal flu.)

10) Adults and children should get an annual seasonal flu shot.

This information is intended to heighten awareness of potential health care alternatives and should not be considered as medical advice. See your qualified health-care professional for medical attention, advice, diagnosis, and treatments.

11) Smoothies So why are the green smoothies so healthy? It all starts with the inadequate nutrition that is an epidemic today. Green smoothies give us a concentrated amount of fresh greens in a way that would be difficult to achieve through other means. If prepared properly with the right components and ice to preserve the awesome enzymes you will be obtaining the optimum tool in flu prevention and every thing else.

We believe that a green smoothie every day will tip the balance of the alkaline/acid balance because green vegetables in a concentrated form are very alkaline and loaded with natural minerals like calcium that support total alkalinity,  one of if not the most important factors in your body.

If you want to ward off the flu, if you want eliminate the terror of colon cancer, Alzheimers  and just about every malady that we face, opening up the link below on smoothies could be one of the most important protective devices there is and that is a daily smoothie done right.  The link below will guide you in doing it right.
